This is the job

We’re looking for a Technical Platform Lead to take ownership of the design, delivery and ongoing performance of key digital platforms across our Driving School, AA Cars and SmartCare businesses. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with architectural influence to shape scalable, resilient and secure platforms.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams across architecture, security, DevOps and product, acting as a trusted technical leader. While this role does not include direct line management, it requires strong collaboration, mentorship and the ability to lead through expertise, driving high engineering standards and continuous improvement across the organisation.

You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our digital platforms, working on complex systems that directly impact customers and business performance. We offer a collaborative environment, opportunities to work with modern technologies, and the chance to make a real difference through engineering excellence.

What will I be doing?
  • Own end-to-end delivery and lifecycle management of applications and platforms (build, run, optimise)
  • Ensure platform stability, performance and resilience, including supporting complex production issues when needed
  • Lead technical design and contribute to architecture decisions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards
  • Drive release governance, change management and continuous improvement in CI/CD and automation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable and compliant solutions
  • Mentor engineers and promote best practices across development and DevOps communities
What do I need?
  • Broad experience across multiple technologies, languages and platforms, with a strong generalist engineering mindset
  • Strong hands-on development experience across modern web, backend and cloud-based architectures
  • Experience working with technologies such as .NET, Node.js, TypeScript, relational databases, APIs (e.g. GraphQL) and modern front-end frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud environments (e.g. AWS) and DevOps practices including CI/CD, observability and automation
  • A collaborative, trustworthy team player who builds strong relationships and works effectively across disciplines
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, challenge and translate business needs into technical solutions
Additional information

We’re always looking to recognise and reward our employees for the work they do. As a valued member of The AA team, you’ll have access to a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays + holiday buying scheme
  • Worksave pension scheme with up to 7% employer contribution
  • Free AA breakdown membership from Day 1 plus 50% discount for family and friends
  • Discounts on AA products including car and home insurance
  • Employee discount scheme that gives you access to a car salary sacrifice scheme plus great discounts on healthcare, shopping, holidays and more
  • Company funded life assurance
  • Diverse learning and development opportunities to support you to progress in your career
  • Dedicated Employee Assistance Programme and a 24/7 remote GP service for you and your family

Plus, so much more!

We’re an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from everyone. The AA values diversity and the difference this brings to our culture and our customers. We actively seek people from diverse backgrounds to join us and become part of an inclusive company where you can be yourself, be empowered to be your best and feel like you truly belong. We have five communities to bring together people with shared characteristics and backgrounds and drive positive change.
