Mechanical Plant Fitter – Large Plant Equipment
- Location: Cardiff
- Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm
- Pay rate: £19.00 per hour

A great opportunity has become available for an experienced Mechanical Plant Fitter to join a well‑established engineering operation specialising in large plant and heavy mechanical assemblies. This role suits someone who enjoys hands‑on engineering, problem‑solving, and working on machinery that genuinely challenges your technical ability. Welding or basic fabrication experience is beneficial and supports a wide range of repair and overhaul tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding heavy mechanical components
- Working on gearboxes, drivetrains and large mechanical assemblies
- Using overhead cranes, jibs and lifting equipment safely
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on plant equipment
- Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing high‑quality repairs
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with safety procedures and quality standards
What We’re Looking For
- Strong mechanical fitting background (plant, rail, HGV, industrial, marine or similar)
- Experience working with heavy components and lifting equipment
- Confident with mechanical fault‑finding and diagnostics
- Welding or fabrication experience is beneficial
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good understanding of health & safety in an engineering environment
- Reliable, proactive and keen to develop new skills
