Location: Cardiff Crown Court

Pay Rate: 12.21 per hour

Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm (Full-time) - 37 hrs per week

Contract: 6-month temporary assignment, extension possibility

Employer: Brook Street (on behalf of HM Courts & Tribunals Service)

About the Role

Brook Street is currently recruiting for a Court Usher to work within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Cardiff Crown Court.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within the Ministry of Justice , and you'll play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day running of the court, acting as a key point of contact for court users and ensuring hearings run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing courtrooms for hearings, trials, and meetings
• Calling parties into court and managing the flow of hearings
• Welcoming and assisting members of the public, legal professionals, and judiciary
• Escorting court users and providing clear information about proceedings
• Handling sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
• Managing court files, documentation, and general admin tasks
• Operating court equipment (recording systems, computers, etc.)
• Supporting colleagues and judiciary outside of court sessions

• Polite and professional at all times
• A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
• Resilient , with the ability to handle potentially difficult or distressing cases
• Compassionate and empathetic , particularly when dealing with vulnerable individuals
• Organised and able to follow clear procedures
• Comfortable working in a structured, fast-paced environment

Requirements

• Minimum 2 GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
  
  OR experience working in a busy public-facing role
• Basic IT skills

Additional Information

• Parking available on site
• Enhanced DBS check required (processed by Brook Street)
• 3-year activity check will be conducted as part of vetting
• Start date dependent on successful clearance
