Environmental Advisor

Abatec is assisting their client, a well-established civil engineering and water contractor to recruit a permanent Environmental Advisor, supporting a portfolio of essential infrastructure projects across South Wales. With a strong pipeline of work and a clear focus on sustainable delivery, the organisation is looking to strengthen its environmental team. This position will play a key role in supporting operational teams and maintaining high environmental standards across multiple sites. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in complex, large-scale projects while contributing to wider sustainability and carbon reduction objectives. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day environmental guidance to both site and project teams, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with current legislation, industry standards, and best practice. The role will involve a combination of site and office-based duties, supporting both live works and pre-construction phases. As Environmental Advisor you will:

• Provide environmental support across project delivery teams
• Carry out site inspections, audits, and compliance checks
• Assist with the development and implementation of environmental management plans
• Support the management of permits, licences, and consents
• Investigate environmental incidents and produce reports with corrective actions
• Advise on environmental risk and mitigation strategies
• Contribute to carbon reduction initiatives and sustainability targets
• Liaise with regulators, clients, and other external stakeholders
• Support audit processes and maintain compliance with ISO 14001 standards
• Input into tenders and pre-construction planning where required

Our client requires an Environmental Advisor with:

• Degree or equivalent in an environmental or related discipline
• Previous experience in a similar environmental role within construction, utilities, or infrastructure
• Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance frameworks
• Familiarity with environmental management systems, ideally ISO 14001
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Effective communicator with confidence engaging site teams and stakeholders
• Full UK driving licence

Salary/Benefits:

• £40,000 - £50,000 p/a
