Deputy Officer in Charge
3 Month Contract WithA local Authority
Job Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Officer in Charge to support the leadership of a new Children’s Home in Cardiff, working with some of the most vulnerable children and young people.
The postholder will assist in the day-to-day management and administration of the home, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and delivering high-quality, child-centred care. The home provides short-term placements of up to 12 weeks, with the aim of understanding each young person’s needs and securing appropriate longer-term placements.
The Deputy Manager will play a key role in leading, inspiring, and developing staff, while promoting the wellbeing, safety, and positive outcomes of the young people in our care.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure young people receive a sensitive, inclusive, and individualised service that meets their social, cultural, racial, medical, psychological, educational, and physical needs
Promote and safeguard the health, wellbeing, and identity of all young people
Empower young people to express their views and actively participate in decisions about their lives and future
Support the development of independence and life skills
Build and maintain positive relationships with families, carers, and relevant professionals
Ensure effective consultation and participation of young people and their support networks
Promote integration within the local community and access to community resources
Develop and sustain positive relationships with local stakeholders and services
Support the Registered Manager in maintaining a competent, motivated, and skilled staff team
Provide supervision, guidance, and support to staff as required
Lead shifts and act as the responsible person in the Manager’s absence
Contribute to staff training, development, and performance management
Assist in ensuring the home operates in line with all regulatory and legislative requirements
Support the effective management of delegated budgets and monitor expenditure appropriately
Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and placement planning
Coordinate, attend, and chair meetings, ensuring clear outcomes and inclusive participation
Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
Promote a strong safeguarding culture and challenge poor practice
Ensure compliance with The Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 and other relevant legislation
Uphold duty of care and ensure the protection and best interests of young people at all times
Requirements
Proven experience working at a senior level within a residential childcare setting
Experience supporting young people with complex needs and behaviours
Experience in staff supervision and team leadership
Experience working within a behaviour support or therapeutic model of care
Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) (or equivalent)
